Click on the postcard to purchase the pen

This pen was made from old school desks found in the Knowlton School and Meeting House in Newburg, Maine, where in 1848 teacher John Wilson wrote that he enjoyed his 84 scholars. The one room school was built in 1842 and remained in use until the mid 1960's.

The desks were purchased in 1870, and during the 90 years the desks received many marks and carvings made by the scholars, such as JMM loves DB. I wonder if anything came of that romance?

I obtained the desks, damaged beyond repair, in February of 1999 about one year after the school's roof collapsed during the Great Ice Storm of 1998.

The hand-crafted school desk pen symbolizes the romance of the one room school era, when our ancestors learned their ABC's in quieter, gentler days.
