The Schooner Grace Bailey

Click on the postcard to purchase the pen

This collectible pen is made from wood removed from the schooner Grace Bailey. The schooner was built in 1882 by Oliver Perry Smith in Patchogue, New York. Throughout her long history she carried a wide variety of cargoes including lumber, oysters, and granite, It is likely that she carried granite from Crotch Island, Maine to New York City for the Post Office and Grand Central Station.

The Grace Bailey had a number of home ports: Patchogue, New York; New Haven, Conn.; Belfast and Camden, Maine. During the summer of 1942 she was chartered to Maine Maritime Academy as their first training vessel. Purchased by Captain Frank Swift in 1940, she was chosen as the flagship of his growing Windjammer Cruise fleet in Camden, Maine. The Grace Bailey was totally restored in 1990 by present owners Capt. Ray and Ann Williamson and named a National Landmark. She is one of five surviving two-masted coasting schooners in the USA.
